Rocky Acre Farm
Family Fun...Down on the Farm
City dwellers can get a taste of how life used to be
at Rocky Acre Farm, a 130-acre working dairy farm
in Mount Joy, Lancaster County. Eileen and Galen
Benner raised their six children in the farm’s 18th century
stone house that’s been in their family for
four generations.
But the couple has also been welcoming guests to
their home and bed and breakfast since the mid-
1960s when Eileen noticed a growing curiosity
among Lancaster County visitors and decided to
open a room of their home to guests who wanted a
taste of real farm life.
“We’ve always enjoyed having visitors and showing
them a slice of farm life. We’ve had thousands
of guests over the years and we’ve been doing it
for so long now that
people who came here
as children are bringing
their own kids back to
share in the
experience,” Eileen says.
The couple now has nine guest suites to accommodate
visitors who want to milk a cow, bottle-feed
a newborn calf or collect eggs in the henhouse
after a farmer’s breakfast served family-style every
morning. After the farm chores are done, visitors
can enjoy simple pleasures like wandering the farm,
taking pony, train and tractor rides, or floating
downstream in a lazy rowboat.
